Committees
The Search Committee members are representative of the Diocese. Each deanery nominated one lay and one clergy, submitted those names to the Standing Committee, and the Standing Committee appointed one more member from each deanery. The primary purpose of the Search Committee is to listen to the Diocese and to prayerfully discern three qualified nominees to the Standing Committee for presentation to the 2009 Electing Convention of the Diocese of Alaska.
The Transition Committee has members, lay and clergy, representing the deaneries of the Diocese. The primary responsibility of this committee is for the time between the election of a bishop, and his or her installation. They will work with and support Bishop Mark, his family, and the diocesan staff during the transition as well as plan the liturgy for the consecration, ordination, and installation of the bishop-elect.
The Standing Committee shall perform the functions required by the Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Diocese of Alaska and the Episcopal Church, Diocesan Convention, and the laws of the State of Alaska. During this period of Bishop Search the Standing Committee has assumed the ecclesiastical authority of the Diocese and are meeting the first Monday of each month at 5:30 pm by teleconference. Please contact a member of the Standing Committee with any questions, issues, or concerns.
